Computed tomography is the technique of estimating the interior of an object by measuring x-ray absorption through that object. . A phantom object is defined geometrically or read from an image, scanned with a choice of beam geometries, and reconstructed by filtered backprojection or direct Fourier inversion. The reconstruction can then be compared against the original, so the effect of a filter, a view count or an interpolation method can be measured rather than judged by eye. . CTSim has both a graphical interface and command-line tools, the two producing identical results. Scripts drive the whole program and record what they did; the demonstrations supplied with CTSim use them to show what each part does, reproducing figures from Herman's "Fundamentals of Computerized Tomography".
