debian/patches: 2 patches to forward upstream low

Among the 2 debian patches available in version 3.20-2.1 of the package, we noticed the following issues:

  • 2 patches where the metadata indicates that the patch has not yet been forwarded upstream. You should either forward the patch upstream or update the metadata to document its real status.

3 low-priority security issues in bookworm low

There are 3 open security issues in bookworm.

1 issue left for the package maintainer to handle:
  • CVE-2024-53580: (needs triaging) iperf v3.17.1 was discovered to contain a segmentation violation via the iperf_exchange_parameters() function.

You can find information about how to handle this issue in the security team's documentation.

2 ignored issues:
  • CVE-2023-7250: A flaw was found in iperf, a utility for testing network performance using TCP, UDP, and SCTP. A malicious or malfunctioning client can send less than the expected amount of data to the iperf server, which can cause the server to hang indefinitely waiting for the remainder or until the connection gets closed. This will prevent other connections to the server, leading to a denial of service.
  • CVE-2024-26306: iPerf3 before 3.17, when used with OpenSSL before 3.2.0 as a server with RSA authentication, allows a timing side channel in RSA decryption operations. This side channel could be sufficient for an attacker to recover credential plaintext. It requires the attacker to send a large number of messages for decryption, as described in "Everlasting ROBOT: the Marvin Attack" by Hubert Kario.

testing migrations
  • This package will soon be part of the auto-openssl transition. You might want to ensure that your package is ready for it. You can probably find supplementary information in the debian-release archives or in the corresponding release.debian.org bug.
  • excuses:
    • Migration status for iperf3 (3.20-2 to 3.20-2.1): Waiting for test results or another package, or too young (no action required now - check later)
    • Issues preventing migration:
    • ∙ ∙ Too young, only 0 of 5 days old
    • Additional info (not blocking):
    • ∙ ∙ Piuparts tested OK - https://piuparts.debian.org/sid/source/i/iperf3.html
    • ∙ ∙ Reproduced on amd64
    • ∙ ∙ Reproduced on arm64
    • ∙ ∙ Reproduced on armhf
