The removal of openvdb will also cause the removal of (transitive) reverse dependencies: blender, embree, ericw-tools, gearhead2, godot, open3d, opencolorio, openimageio, ospray, slic3r-prusa. You should try to prevent the removal by fixing these RC bugs.
